2-Part Final Paper (worth 12.5 points for each part, totaling 25 points): Your final paper is a theory-supported evaluation of the behavior of your project team
throughout the semester. There are two parts to this paper along with a second document containing your compiled “team/behavioral notes” from throughout the semester.
These notes are a regularly maintained journal of observations of self and team behavior (described below and also discussed in class).
Part 1 of Paper: Self Analysis 2 Pages In this first part of the paper you discuss, analyze and critique your own behavior (and performance) as a project team member.
Use concepts and theory learned in this class to support and illuminate your analysis and discussion, i.e. Explain your personal performance and influence on the team
using what you have learned.
Part 2 of Paper: Team Analysis (3 Pages: Dedicate this section of the paper to discussion, analysis and critique of the behavior (and performance) of the entire team.
Again, use concepts and theories from class to build, support and illuminate your analysis.
In the appendices (up to 5 extra credit points): Include raw notes/journal entries that you collected on your own or your team’s behavior during the semester (see
below). Include any tables, charts, or pictures that support your analysis. Quality notes and support in the appendices can qualify for up to 5 extra credit points on
your paper grade. The extra credit points will not give you a score above the maximum score; it will boost your score ‘up to’ the maximum score. Team/Behavioral Notes:
In your final paper you will present and analyze the actual behaviors of you and your teammates as you completed your projects. Therefore, it would be very helpful for
you to keep a journal of “behavioral notes” (see below) that describes various aspects of your team’s behavior during the semester. In these notes you record
information about the dynamics of your team interactions, including who does what, who says what, how you are organized that day, etc… In the management world, such
note-taking (performed either literally or mentally) is critical to success. It is up to you as to how you will record your notes, and as to what you decide is
important enough to write down. You can write your notes by hand, type them directly into a computer, or use a combination of both methods (this is what I do for my
own research). It is best if you record behavioral notes after nearly every group interaction! This could mean immediately after, later that night, or even the next
morning. If you wait too long then you will lose important details from the meeting and there will be no good way to recover them.
