Sociological criminology examines the relationships of group and demographic
variables to crime. Examples of such variables include gender, age, race, socioeconomic
status, and ethnic and cultural affiliation. Sociological criminologists also examine situational or
environmental factors that are conducive of criminal action, such as time, place, and other
