Weighting 50% Due date 24th Oct
DESCRIPTION Word count: 3,000 words (+/-10%)
You have been hired as a conflict specialist by a client to analyse a conflict (depending on the conflict scenario that students can choose from, this client could for example be an NGO or a local government) that they would like to intervene in. You have been asked to prepare a report in which you map the conflict using the Shay Bright conflict map.
Your report should:
1) include a comprehensive conflict map (using Shay Bright’s Conflict Mapping Chart) of the conflict 2) be presented in a professional format, reflecting a balanced, non-biased analysis of the conflict 3) consider relevant concepts and theories you were introduced to during this subject 4) be presented as an academic paper (introduction, main body, conclusion; proper referencing of sources (including conflict theory sources and sources providing information about the conflict)
Several conflicts are available that you can choose to analyse for this assignment (please see LearnJCU>Assessment>Task 3>Conflict Scenarios).
It is important that you sign up for one of these conflicts as early as possible by sending your lecturer an email to request to work with the conflict of your choice. This is to ensure that not all students are working on the same conflict. The process of signing up will work on a first come, first served basis. Each conflict scenario listed on LearnJCU comes with at least one resource that you should consider to gather information about your conflict. You will need to do some further research to get a more comprehensive picture of your conflict, which is needed for a balanced analysis.
You may also choose to map a different conflict which is not part of the list. If you choose to do this, you will be required to do your own research for your conflict. You will still need to send an email to your lecturer to get approval to work with the conflict. The conflict needs to be
• adequately complex • in the public eye • approved by the lecturer at the latest 2 weeks before the due date of the task (and before you start working on your conflict analysis)
